Dr Bastian Seidel is a rural GP in Tasmania’s Huon Valley.
Bastian is also a past President of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, which represents 40,000 members nationally, and a former Clinical Professor at the University of Tasmania.
Bastian was elected to the Tasmanian Legislative Council division of Huon on 1 August 2020. He tendered his resignation to the Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency the Hon. Barbara Baker AC, on 7 January 2022.
Bastian studied medicine in Germany and South Africa. He underwent postgraduate training in the UK, USA and Hong Kong before moving to Australia in 2007.
He holds a research doctorate in paediatric immunology and has published peer-reviewed, scientific articles as well as books in general medicine, health services research and medical education.
